The 2005 Vote Record: The Redondo Beach Chamber Raises Elected Officials’ Awareness on Business Legislation

The 31 Bills Tracked by the Redondo Beach Chamber and How State Senator Bowen, State Senator Lowenthal, State Senator Vincent, Assembly member Horton, Assembly member Karnette, and Assembly member Oropeza Voted

In 2005, the Redondo Beach Chamber’s Government Relations Council (GRC) tracked 31 total pieces of local, state and federal potential laws (bills) that might impact Redondo Beach businesses.  The GRC members reviewed all of the bills in the spring of 2005.

“The Redondo Beach Chamber believes that it is extremely important for us to inform our elected officials about the impact these bills might have on our local business community,” stated Ann Garten, Chair of the Redondo Beach Chamber Board. “We will continue to advocate for our businesses next year with the same objective of supporting business-friendly, job-creating and quality of life enhancing bills.”

Redondo Beach’s local legislators received letters on all 31 bills tracked by the Redondo Beach Chamber.  In addition, the Redondo Beach Chamber’s official positions on each of the 31 bills have been available on this Web site since early 2005. The Web page included summaries and explanations of why the Redondo Beach Chamber supported or opposed each of the 31 bills.

“The GRC continues to advocate for Redondo Beach businesses,” said Marna Smeltzer, President and CEO of the Redondo Beach Chamber.  “The Redondo Beach Chamber continues to work vigorously to communicate with our local representatives about our priorities and the bills that might impact our business community.”

To reach the following vote percentages supporting pro-jobs for each local legislator below, the Redondo Beach Chamber tallied the number of times our representatives voted in agreement with the Redondo Beach Chamber’s positions and divided that total by the number of chances the elected official had to vote.
