Chamber Increases Role in LA County Business Community

By Marna Smeltzer

President/CEO

I am happy to announce that Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau joined the newly formed Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed), which serves as a powerful and cooperative voice for businesses and organizations throughout Los Angeles County. By joining BizFed, RBCC & VB has become part of a coalition of 44 business organizations, representing more than 70, 000 businesses and 1.2 million people throughout the county.

I believe that a strong business community, which creates jobs and keeps our economy growing, benefits everyone – business and working families alike. The priority of BizFed will be to support and advocate for strong economic policies that incentivize our businesses to stay and expand in LA County and to attract new companies to LA County and bring more jobs to our backyard. Redondo Beach stands to benefit from these efforts.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has also expressed his enthusiasm regarding the creation of BizFed.

"The momentum for this new business coalition is fantastic. A vibrant economy begins with a job. By creating jobs and growing the economy, the Los Angeles County Business Federation will be setting the stage to affect immeasurable improvements in transportation, education, healthcare and crime prevention in California. I congratulate all its member organizations for coming together to help build and expand our economy."

A recent survey of BizFed members throughout Southern California, including Redondo Beach businesses, resulted in very clear priorities. Lowering commute time, curbing gang violence and improving the quality of neighborhood schools were noted as top priority issues.

By joining BizFed, RBCC & VB has strengthened its voice and the voices of all our members when it comes to being heard on business related issues that impact all businesses throughout Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles County Federation: Power in Numbers

The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau is joining forces with other business organizations in the formation of the Los Angeles County Business Federation (Federation). The Federation has been created to unify business advocacy organizations in Los Angeles County with the intent on serving both businesses organizations and their members and making the Los Angeles region more business friendly.

The goals of the Federation in which the Chamber will heavily benefit from:

- Help influence the votes of elected officials and regulatory boards on issues that are important to businesses in Los Angeles County.

- Help educate and engage business persons in advocacy on important business issues.

- To assist every Federation member in enhancing the overall effectiveness of their advocacy efforts.

Joining efforts with the Federation will give the Chamber access to more businesses throughout the region enabling us to educate and active them on key issues impacting Redondo Beach and regional businesses. The Federation will also help bring together the business community through a Web based Action Alert system.

The Chamber’s involvement with the Federation is another value added benefit for our members. We now have an increase sphere of influence in fighting unfavorable potential laws. We look forward to working hard to improve our business climate in 2008.
