Redondo Beach Chamber Member John Parsons Honored for Representing Business in Redondo Beach and the South Bay

Six California small business professionals were honored at the California Chamber’s “Small Business Legislative Summit” in Sacramento on May 25th. The honorees were recognized for their advocacy efforts on behalf of small business.

Local Chambers throughout California submitted nominations and a task force made up of the California Chamber’s Small business Committee made the selections. The criteria used in the selection process included involvement in local, state and federal legislative issues, testifying at government hearings, authoring articles, conducting research on issues, serving in a leadership capacity on local and state ballot measures and leadership in local and regional issues.

Ann Garten, Chair of the Board of the Redondo Beach Chamber and Chair-Elect for the South Bay Association of Commerce (SBACC) said “John Parsons was an excellent candidate for the Business Advocate of the Year Award for his efforts in retaining the Los Angeles Air Force base alone, not to mention his ongoing leadership is retaining the 310 area code. Jacki Bacharach, the Executive Director of the South Bay Council of Governments said “John works tirelessly in everything he is involved in, he just seems to have more hours in his day than the rest of us”.

When not focusing on retaining the LAAFB, John is an influential voice in the efforts to save the 310 Area Code, another top priority for businesses in the South Bay. John has traveled to San Francisco to testify at hearings, he has met on numerous occasions PUC officials and industry leaders and has helped to develop articles and letters for our members.

As a city Councilman of Redondo Beach has been a stellar pro-business representative. Prior to our recent election an aggressive business tax increase was proposed to help with the City’s projected deficit. John successfully argued “it has never been this council’s policy to lay this entire burden on business”.

John Parsons is in the business of holding people accountable and the business community could not ask for a more formable representative. Chamber leaders know that if we need assistance on a tough issue whether local, state or federal we can count on his influence and leadership.
